The Phoebe is a great trout spoon, especially when it's retrieved erratically. It runs shallow, so wade and work from midstream while casting to likely spots. Brown trout hang under overhead cover such as logjams or shoreline bushes, and that's where your Phoebe should be. Accurate casters will take the most fish. Shown in silver, it ranges up to 1/2 ounce in assorted colors. $2.15-"$3.20; acmetackle.com

These are the crankbaits, plastics, jigs, spoons, and spinners fishing editor John Merwin would choose above all others, broken down by species. Are your favorites on his list?

I love this list, some of my favorite lures are on this list and I have used most of these at some points. I love the chug bugs and zara spooks, they have some of the best action of any lures.
The strike that takes place when a bass ambushes these lures is what keeps me hooked on bass fishing,
this is a great list for a beginner fisherman like me. some of these are already in my dad's tackle box. thanks mr. merwin.
