They usually give 5 start members first chance. I has taken me forever to get 2 stars.
The usually give 5 star members first chance. It has taken me a long time to get 2 stars.
They give us 5 star members first crack at the testing items. Anything that we do not wish to test gets passed on to 4 stars etc. Hang in there my garage is getting full of stuff and how many fishing rods and rifles should one man take before he is greedy? Since I got this Nigerian prince thing in the works I'll recommend my next chance to test gear goes to a four star. I call on all my fellow 5 stars to do the same! Us folks with 5 stars are getting a little greedy IMHO.
well i will tell you that I am a four star and yet i have not gotten any gear to test. but i enjoy the ability to read and continue to learn from the people on this site. you guys give me alot of help so that good enough for me for now.
I'm 5 star and the only gear I ever tested I paid for!
Five stars, over 400k points.
I'm like Hobob, too much to mention!
I'm having a real hard time returning the bass boat and the Churchill side by side! Wow, is the shotgun nice.
I'm expecting a rigged out 650 Honda to test drive this deer season. Four wheel drive, gun racks and saddle bags. I understand it will be accompanied by a Colt AR15 in .308 Win with a 3x9 Leupold and a case of ammo.
I don't think anyone has gotten anything to test in years.
If you are here to test the gear then you are going to be disappointed. Enjoy the company and knowledge these guys and gals have or contribute or ask questions. It's the interaction with folks from all over the country which is valuable here.
Im 5 stars and have yet to test anything.
If your ever in NY mention F&S and Star Bucks will give you a $3.00 coffee for $3.00.
I'm not sure how it happened, but apparently I have the title to that hunting vehicle of the future, the staff must have felt the 5 Star guys had already received too much. Its supposed to be delivered real soon I'll let you know how the test drive goes...
A have a little over 1.1 Million points. I'm saving to cash in on the Aston Martin DB5.
I'm saving my points for the new self propelled Panther Martin lure.
I finally received a small guided missle for the ultimate long range shooting. I can't wait for elk season this year! Report to follow!
Wow, can't wait till I have 5 stars and can get that guided missle to test too....instant ground venison!
I have no need for technocrap so I never gave them my particulars. Not for this anyway. I believe a few guys tested some stuff years ago. I notice that even the contests with prizes over in the blogs section seem to have dried up too.
I am not on this website for the equipment freebies.
DesertWalker hit the “nail on the head“. To be able to read good answers, messages and comments makes you a better Sportsman. That knowledge is worth its weight in gold.
I think the gear testing is a thing of the past. This question has been asked a few times in the past and the only people that have recieved gear are some of the very first members when the site first came up. I have been on here for about 4 years 70k+ points and have never heard of anybody testing gear.
If your intentions on here is to test gear, sorry. There are though however a lot of good knowlegable people on here that I know I have learned a lot from staff and users both.
Every new person who gets on this site goes through the same expectations of a truck load of free gear showing up on their door step for testing. It could happen but it is lust like hitting the lottery only the odds are better for hitting the lottery. I am one of the lucky ones that got a gift from F&S in the form of a book called THE TOTAL OUTDOORSMAN MANUAL. I had around a quarter of a million points at that time so that would have made 10,000 points worth about $0.79 in my case. But like I said, I am 1 out of thousands that was that lucky. Just hang in there and enjoy the site. The knowledge of the members on this site is priceless.
So far I have tested 2 man backpack tents (July 09), Cabelas Whitetail Extreme parka and currently testing 4 inline muzzleloaders. The article is due to the Editor in February. IMO It's not the total number of points but the quality and volume of advice you give to others that matters. The parka is excellent, I highly recommend it. Too early to say on the ML's. Hope this helps.
Del - Would you mind telling us the dates you received all this gear for testing?
I have been under the impression that F&S discontinued the gear testing program many years ago.
Got the rifles in Feb and March or thereabouts. Editor Slayton White gave me a year to use and write on the rifles which I get to keep. Two came with scopes and cleaning kits, two came with cases and sabot bullets. Also got 2 baseball caps (CVA and Traditions). After testing I plan to make some kids happy. That may have something to do with my selection for this gig. Hope this helps.
Del - Thanks. Will your gear review appear in the magazine or in your user profile for this site?
