I hear Chad Love is leaving for a job with PETA. lol Maybe you can get his job. Seriously, if I had a really good answer for you, I'd probably already be working at F&S. Good luck Aaron!
A background in journalism wouldn't hurt, and as 2Poppa said, an English degree is great if you're going to be a writer of some sort. Learn to spell correctly. This isn't a field in which you will get rich, but there's a lot of career satisfaction.
Step 1: Become the world's richest person.
Step 2: Buy either the magazine itself or the entire Bonnier Corp.
Step 3: Install yourself as one of the field editors
Step 4: Buy the best gear you can, and spend the next ten years in the wild living off the land
Step 5: Devote a four page section to the adventures you had during those ten years
LOL, just joking. Getting the education and working wherever you have to until you can get the job you really want is the way to do it.
First, remove the phrase "I get" from your vocubulary. Second, write, write, write, write and write, and then publish a lot. If you are serious, talk to your local newspaper about writing the occasional column for free, or try to contribute to your area outdoors journal. A lot of guys want to write for F&S, and the magazine doesn't need to take a chance on anyone that has not already proven themselves.
You can always close your eyes. Dreams are only as good as what you shoot for. So if you want to work for F&S then dream about it and then go for it. And like 'Greenhead' said, get your name out there in what ever you can. Write, take pictures, maybe even get a video of you hunting and write a column about you hunting or fishing or whatever your pleasure is. Good luck.
