I don't know how much or effectively you can plant there with a small budget. But i would go with clover.

I'm with jordjohn44. With a small budget, planting small food plots to attract deer to a particular area at a particular time of year is a better plan of action. Planting small brassica plots in mid to late August is a great way to attract deer for the early season. Planting too early will likely result in a destroyed food plot before the hunting season, so be sure to wait until the end of the summer to plant.

Clover is a pretty good all season attractant crop, but on a small scale it may be destroyed before the hunting season just like the brassica plot I was talking about. Good luck!

Here's a link on the subject from the University of Tenn. that's a wealth of info.

I also suggest you talk to your county extension agent, another great source of information and support. As to plant species, I suggest rye, clovers, brassicas, chicory, or wheat, among others. Be sure to do a soil test too.

All of the above are great plans. Your young and not alot of cash. Do your parents grow veggies? If so get some squash, pumpkin, corn, and cucumber seeds. Dig up a couple small patches of soil and loosen up the ground. plant 2-3 seeds in each spot. Alternate which ones you plant. Hopefully they will make it til the end of the season without being eaten. If so you will have some fruit on the ground that the deer will love! Cant keep them out of my garden!

Clover is a good bet, there are alot of pre packaged mixed food plot products on the market as well. these are an especialy good by because of the mixture of seeds giving it a varioty. Local farm store here has some that will do about 1/2 acre for under $10 a bag. A note about Moishe's sugjestion for spreading acorns.. check with your local game laws here in indiana it would be considered illegal. so check your states first!

Clover, Soybeans, corn, Rye grass, alfalfa, oats.

Berry patch: Blue, Black,

Fruit trees: Apple, Persimmon, Plum, Crabapple

Cover: Greenbriar

Check state sites for native plant recommendations. They will grow with little to no soil ammendments and will survive and save you $$
