I've never been fishing in the winter. Up in ohio the water is cold right now. How would the fishing be? if it would be all right to give it a try what baits should I try?

The fishing is great in the winter. You can drop a wax worm under a bobber for bluegills, drag a streamer in the Mad River or Clearfork River for big trout or head up North for world class steelhead action.
in cold water, the slow presentation works best. the fish won't go out of their way to get anything but at the same time if they can eat a large meal all at once that means they are not going to have to work more in order to get a lot of meals. try something big and slow. plastics and jigs with trailers like pork are good bets. fish slow and try to find where the fish are staging because they aren't going anywhere. back tributaries and ditches are good if there are baitfish there. good luck and don't give up.

Go for it, I would use either live or cut bait so the fish will smell it.
The steelhead are running in the Lake Erie tributaries. If the water is stained, use a btight power bait.
