um dont count on catching bass in the winter they are pretty much dormant you can catch them but far and few between. dont fish anything special for them if there going to acutally bite they will take whatever
naten is is right. If you do go bass fishing I would use slow, deep presentations with small baits. The fish will not actively chase bait and will not be interested in large baits but will feed on small slow bait that comes right in front of it's nose. Good Luck.
Most every article I have read says winter bassing can be very good. You just need to find the concentrations of bass and get them to bite. The little winter bassing I have done myself has been rather slow but not totally worthless and I usually catch good quality. Normally I fish sharp drops or steep banks with either a jerkbait or a dropshot or a jig. This January’s Bassmaster has some very informative articles on winter bassing, especially the Day on the Lake with Kevin Short.
I went to an overstocked pond in dec/jan one a sunny day and pulled out 7 or 8 half pounders in about an hour and a half on a rat-l-trap but other than that havent had too much success bass fishin in the winter
I am in Georgia and catch more 7 pound plus fish in December-January. In the last three weeks, we have caught two that weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces, 1 that was six pounds even and a few between 4 and 5 pounds. I abandoned the small bait idea and went with a 10 1/2 inch Watermelon Red Zoom Ole Monster rigged on a Lanier rig (just a swivel, no weight, 12-18 inch leader). The hardest part is moving with all of those clothes on.

Depends on where you are. I've caught them in the winter but not very many. I use heavy slow action lures.

I agree with johnnycakes. It depends on what region of the country, and local weather patterns, you're in.
you probably won't catch bass but use live bait
I've gotten a few bass in the winter, but it was mainly with live bait.
