It all depends on what I'm fishing for and where I'm fishing. But most generally I like to use the shortest, lightest action rod that I feel will get the job done. I fish almost exclusively with the Ugly Stik line of rods.
For bass, I like useing my small Ugly Stick (its 4 or 5 feet). Also, I like a rod with light tackle and it has to be super sensitive! Over all, I'll use any rod that will cast, reel and catch me the big one.
I like all the things you mentioned but I also like a nice stiff tip for better control when casting. some rods the tips are just to light and flimsy and I can't cast as accurately to hit the spot I want.
With how many rods I have broken in my life I will take toughness over sensitivity, looks or anything else. I love the Ugly Stick because I am frankly not careful.
I like to have a long rod about 6'6" or a 7' with a lot of back bone and the tip has to be sensitive. Try a Ugly Stick. I think they are the best rod out there for the money.
I like the longest rod that will work for max leverage on the fish. So, I don't have a rod under 7 foot. Sensitivity is important so not an ugly stick! Mostly whatever will work best for me on the current technique.
It depends on what I am fishing for. I have many Ugly Sticks for fishing bass through king mackeral and really like them. They are great for the money. For bass, short, light and stiff is what you are looking for.
