Fish will feed just before a low pressure system (storm) hits. The lower pressure is more comfortable to fish than high pressure. You could look at this as the high pressure and the pressure of water pushes more against the fishes body, meaning discomfort and maybe even a full belly feeling. Low pressure = less pressure against the fishes body, comfort and an empty feeling belly = fish will seek out food and are more willing to chase prey. The actuall storms will shut down feeding as lightning flashes and thunder will send the fish deep and looking for safety. Right after a storm is a great time to fish as the runoff carries insect, frogs and other small prey, bringing the fish closer to the surface, banks and inflows to lakes and rivers. Hope this helps!

Cgull is correct with everything he said. The fish also seek sheltered waters before a storm hits. So after the storm, you can see where the sheltered waters were and that is where to fish. I worked for Lew Childre back in the seventies, and he would fly to where a hurricane or any major storm was just to fish the after part.

Like many others, i too agree with Cgull...yes its good to fish before and after a storm/rain, but i think its a great time to fish during a rain shower or while its sprinkling....i always have amazing luck while its raining, you should try it and see what luck you end up with.....P.S. i caught a 7lb bass, a 5lb bass, and a 3lb crappie during rain showers

Good call, Hunt-fish-live. In the rain, you have less people out to bother you. I do not like it when I catch one fish and someone sees me do it then moves over on top of me. I love to troll slowly through a school of specs, and if someone sees me catch one, they will pull up and anchor right where I caught it. Then both of us do not catch any more. I have to move and find another school and the offender will usually follow do do the same again.

I catch tons of fish during the storm, but when it stops the bites stop. I usually use topwater or live bait. I also usually search the lilly pads and logs for bass, they will come right out and smash that bait.

right after the storm is when the bugs are falling off the branches and the fish come up to feed.

also the fish are excited because the rain churns the water up so that the oxygen level is higher making them more aggresive

My son says: it is always good to fish where there is cover close to shore... after rain, the bugs are easy for them to obtain. Generally, he fishes before a rain.
