I used them this Monday in two colors, but had more success with brown pumpkinseed salamanders and live minnows, I felt like a dry fly fisherman wanting them to come up and hit it, but they were not going after it. I had ample lilly pads full of fired up bass, but I didn't seem to have any luck with frogs. They heat is kicking in some all day biting action. Hoorah.
I use them when there are frogs around and the bass are used to feeding on them. To a bass, a frog must taste like a T-Bone does to me... they just can't resist a frog lure... that is why my frog Bass-O-Rino is still one of my favorites.
Topwater Frogs can be used Spring, Summer, and Fall with great sucess. If used during during the spawn, you can identify locations of bedding bass and follow up with a second bait like a senko. As the water warms above 65-75 the bait attracts more bites. During the hot summer on shallow rivers and Deltas the bait continues to work.
Frogs work best in the spring and summer here, where I am the time frame of mid May-sept. I like to throw them around Grass, lilly pads, and stick up around the banks. I really like to let the time of year and water temp dictate where I through them. when it get hotter, deeper pads are you best beat on the frog bite, cooler closer to spawn time shallow bank beating in weeds, and brush tops do well.

Spring and summer after the frogs have emerged.

February through october, I have just as much as luck with Zoom Speed Craws as I do with frogs.
In Ohio... now.
In the south where I am, the bass do not seem to ever close the season on frogs, so I use a pork frog trailer all year.

They work the best when the weather gets hotter @ the frogs get bigger around here. Most of my fishing is on creeks & farm ponds though.
