Q:
Thinking of visiting the state of Maine. To those who live there, where should we try to visit to best represent the state? We would love to taste the seafood and I wouldn't mind trying the Maine trout streams. When the leaves turn is there still good flyfishing?

Dave, I hunted Maine a few times but I don't live there. Try to go to LL Beam in Freeport. You should eat those awesome Maine Lobsters with butter, at any seafood house on the coast. Have Fun, good eating and best wiches.

Dave, leaves are down already in the Western Mountains (was just there last weekend). September is the best time of year for brook trout fishing. Lots of great fly fishing only waters, particularly around and north of Moosehead Lake. October of course is great for grouse, flushed 8 in 2 days of hunting. As far as the coast, you can't go wrong with Bar Harbor area, around Acadia National Park, gorgeous area.

Moose, you took the words right out of my mouth with Bar Harbor. I went there in 1960 to take my sister to catch the ferry to St. Johns, Newfoundland where she taught the dependents of military families. You can't beat the seafood in Bar Harbor.
