Anyone familiar with or knowledgeable about fly fishing in Cuba? I need help picking appropriate flies for my deployed husband to use to catch whatever fish are local to that area.

I'm assuming he's deployed to either Gitmo or Havana (we have some marines guarding the interest section, I think).
In Havana, the fishing's pretty poor, as there's a fair amount of pressure, etc. The locals mostly use "sardines" from the shore. I could never figure out if that meant minnow or a literal sardine.
Down in Trinidad there were a fair # of baracudas near the shore. Looking at the map, Gitmo seems to have a similar, bay-type environment, so he'd want something real flashy for that.
Freshwater lakes there can hold some really, really big bass. (He should try Hanabanilla, if he somehow gets there.) I'd imagine you'd want poppers or something for them. Sorry there's not more info.
I hope someone else on this board will have suggestions for flies for 'cudas and bass.
I'm sure it's similar to fishing the keys or any warm salt water in that area. Try looking at bonefish and tarpon flies. I'm sure there is the same type of food.
i posted on your last question but i'll retype it here. go with very large colorful streamer flies like the clouser minnows if fishing in salt water and large poppers for fresh water. heavy line, reel and a rod are nessecary as well.

Thanks for your answer...it's way more than I've gotten anywhere else so far! And yes, it is for Gitmo.

Not specifically fly fishing, but this old article might provide some insight. Perhaps see why flies are normally substituted for the bass...

Sorry I'm not more help, but I don't bass fish.
