My strategy is to eliminate the luck, and use a color that best represents the bottom color. That's how bait fish evolve like Sculpins...drab green bottom use olive...and in off colored water black silhouettes well. The one that is exceptionally effective for me is WHITE, and is effective in cold water. Why, I do not know, and have asked why to the experts..... Mr. Streamer himself, Kelly Gallop, I asked that to, and he acknowledged how well it worked in cold water, but did not know why either. I do know it is highly visible. Brown and yellow combo is effective in my river because young brown trout are that color scheme. Make your color choice have reason, and you will fish it more confidently.

I've always had good luck with black or olive. Never actually tried anything else.
My favorite color would have to dark orange and a brown with a little blue. You should try it it works great in Minnesota. I hope this helps you
white/black has done well for crappie and black has done well for bass. not sure in new york yet.

Black, olive and dark brown has always worked for me.
Dark brown, but brighter colors are better for steelhead or salmon.
In decending order. Black, Olive, White, Brown, and there are some days when those fail Purple has worked.
Good luck.
Favorite? I tie a mottled bugger with a peacock hurl body. Short fuzzy rabbit tail. Killer.
