Q:
Anybody know of a good way to keep the guides on a fly rod from icing up?
I thought about maybe using some of that windshield de-icer spray, but I'm not sure if it would harm my rod and/or fly line. Anybody ever tried it?

I wouldn't suggest tapping the tip on a rock unless you have a good warranty on your rod.
De-icer may be really bad if it got in the water. I know that it is poisonous to humans probably not too good for fish.
Use Pam cooking spray, or a commercial De-ice paste that cabelas sells (The Pam tip I owe to Deeter.)
This is the paste, but 6 bucks a tub is a bit expensive if you do alot of winter fishing like myself (I Steelhead.)

pismo are you from pismo beach?
Check the contents - probably wood alcohol or propylene glycol. No worth polluting the streams.
rub chap stick or burt's bees wax on the guides keeps the water off also try using your floatant if you have neither
i use chap stick
