I picked up a pair at the end of last season. No carbide. They are great to hike in and out. They only saw, muck, clay, and slippery small-medium sized stones. They worked surprisingly well. They did seem to slide earlier when the water got deep and fast, but that might have been my imagination as I was treading gingerly. So far so good, though I think the carbide studs will make them better.
