Chumming!!! Let some chick feed (or hen scratch if you please) sit in a cover bucket for a few days, with just enough water to keep it moist. The longer it sets the better. The you can either use a big spoon to chum when you get to a spot or you can find some way like a mesh bag with a weight you put out that morning to attract them. After that, it is pretty much whatever bait you want to use. Store bought stink bait, chicken livers or whatever. Works pretty good for us.
Of coarse when i was a kid we did the same thing with a cheap can of cat food. Use a bottle opener with the pointed head to poke a few holes in it, tie it to a rock, chunk it in, get to fishing. But that's old school fun.
I like limb lining, trout lining and jug fishing. I can run 10-20 limb lines, a couple of trout lines and 10-20 jug lines. I'll bait with worms, minnow, live fresh caught perch, liver or cut bait. I'll then adjust to what is catching best. If i'm bank fishing, I'll still use live bait, cut bait or pantyhose wraped liver. I'll put out several rods rigged with 25 lb test line, a three way swivel with the weighted line being only 10-15 lb test line so if the weight hangs up, it'll break off rather than losing the whole rig.
Stop by the bait shop and mooch the dead minnows. I like them 4 to 6 inches long. Rig them up with a 3-way swivel using a 6 inch dropper to the sinker and about two feet of leader to the hook. Usually free bait and good results. Remember little cats are scavengers, the big ones are predators. All flat heads are predators.
The one’s used most is hog wild and chicken liver... But you have many other kinds of catfish bait like meal worms, night crawlers, stink bait, marshmallows, cheese balls, soft bait, blood worms, frogs and many different kinds of bait used to catch catfish!!!
