I really don't use chicken liver a lot. But when I have I fished it on the bottom. I seem to have better luck on cut bait and it seems like I catch bigger cats on cut bait also.

Deep water no, shallow yes. But you still want the bait on or as close to the bottom as possible.

Depends on the fish and how they're feeding at the time. I mostly fish bottom for catfish but I have had some awesome catfish action using a float during the summer.

In still, relatively shallow water, I've had good luck with bobbers, letting the livers hang almost to the bottom.

i use a large weight on the bottom letting the bait float about 6 inches off the bottom.

Two poles, one with a bobber and the other set up for bottom fishing. Both have two hooks with different baits at different depths, then everything is changed to what is getting the attention of Mr. Whiskers.

I fish mainly in a slow moving river and have had moderate luck at times using bobbers. I do better with night crawlers under bobbers, but livers have also worked for me. Unlike most others, I sometimes fish only a foot and a half deep. Many times in my area the fish are suspended and this method works well for me. Try different depths until you find where the fish are.
