Q:
Crappie or Croppie? I know it's technically pronounced Croppie but come on, doesn't everyone say Crappie or is that just me? I personally think saying Croppie just sounds pretentious, but I want to know what you guys think!

The correct way to settle this is to call them by their true southern name..... Sac-A-Lait ,

Where I'm from (colorado) its mostly "croppie", where a lot of my family is from (missouri) it is "crappie". I find myself saying whichever the people around me tend to say.

Where I am, we call 'em "GOOD"! LOL!!!

Personally, the locals use the "O" pronunciation.
I was raised with the "O" word and have only heard the "A" word used in the "Deep" South.
Really doesn't matter one way or the other, I "know" what either means.... "GOOD"!!!
Louisiana, in the south mostly, use sac-a-lait. It means "sack of milk". They are also called "paper mouth" in Louisiana because of their fragile mouths.
Set a hook "real" hard on a crappie, and you'll understand why.

Call 'em whatever you choose. Just makes it easier to determine if you are a yankee or a newbie. LOL

Up here in the frozen north we call them croppie and they sure don't taste crappy. I'm sorry if that sounds pretentious to you.
Happy Crappie to you all!

Most people in Oklahoma here call bluegill 'perch'. Some people think it's pretentious to call 'em "bluegill". People say "sand bass" instead of "white bass". The world of fishing has it's own regional dialects. It's all fun.
