Q:
We set a trot line and we had some success with it! We caught 4 catfish out of about 11 hooks. Anyone else have any success with a trot line?

My dad, uncle, and I used to run trotlines on Kentucky Lake in TN pretty often when I was a kid. We would usually go to a local creek and run a seine through rocks to catch creek minnows and crawdads for bait (this was half the fun of the whole trip for me).

Most of the time we caught small channel cats (under 5 pounds), turtles, and drum, but you never knew what would turn up...especially with the bait we were using. Fun times and great memories!

I've tried trotlining in rivers a couple of times and never had any luck---guess I didn't know what I was doing.

How is your aquarium project coming along?

Well the biggest catfish is doing good. The little guy died. I'm not sure what happened to him. I looked in the tank and he was floating straight up and his tail was scraped up. The skin was off his tail.

Too bad. The big guy probably bit him. I had other fish do that when I had an aquarium.

I bait my trout lines with freshly caught perch or live minnows. My best and biggest numbers of catfish are caught on live perch. If I have no live bait I will use cut bait or worms.
