I have decided to start a Fishing journal and would like to hear your opinion on what information would be most efficient in plotting trends to become a better angler.
Size, weight, age, where you caught the fish, what bait you used, the time you fished, the weather of the water and the air, how many fish you caught in a period of time, and the month, GOOD LUCK FISHING!!!!!
Location, date/time, weather, previous weeks weather, lures used (what worked and what didn't), fish reaction to the lures (hard hits/soft bite). I like to mark the location on my atlas that I keep in my truck and make a few notes there as well.
I did this and used it to fish... after 17 years I had quite a data base. This was for Lake Michigan salmon though and they are very finicky fish. I kept (in order of importance) Date, location, lure, lure size, lure color, water depth, depth of lure, presentation mode (flat line, downrigger, outrigger, etc.), fish type, fish size, distance of trolling line from boat, length of leader, line weight, wind speed, wind direction, weather. I used this database to good advantage over a 17 year period.

The two biggest thing that I keep track of is weather and time.
Air temp, water temp, cloud cover, plant growth, water clarity, time of day fish caught, abundent insects

everything mentioned above and also water level and fishing pressure (if other people are fishing around).

Not much else to add except "keep up, on it" it wil help you catch more fish.
Good luck and good fishing.
Thank You All
Date, location, weather, time, and bait/lure used.
Everybody said it all. Good luck and have fun fishing.
