YUp, tire shops are great places to check for old wheel weights. I stop and pick up every wheel weight I find on the side of the road and at intersections, this single pick ups add up and I feel that removing these from the roadways just might prevent someone getting a flat.

The tire shops are a good source of wheel weights but the fellows doen my way sell the lead to metal buyers, i.e. I now pay for them!

Professional Plumber's suppy houses also stock pure lead ingots. Good stuff for muzzle loading bullets. Wheel weights are hardened with with various metals including antimony. Not very good stuff for round balls.

I'll toss another source out. Check with Pharmaceutical supply companies that carry redioactive isotopes used in treating cancer and in various tests. The stuff is shipped in lead.
