That would depend upon the type of game you wish to pursue. I would guess that from your profile pic you are thinking bass?
First ask this, "why do you want a baitcast?" You could be limiting yourself to what you can throw, especially for a $50 combo. I just got a Bass Pro XPS rod and Pfleuger President spinning real for under $100. I love it so far! Smooth and sensitive.
I love my SuperCaster 1000 reel by US Reel. It is the best reel that I have ever used hands down. They sell two models one that is about $199.99 and 0ne that is $249.99. Also there is a new US Reel model 800 out and I just bought one of these. It also has the new levelwind feature like the 1000 and is cheeper, but hard to find. Dealers are slow getting them in right now. For rods I buy Shakespeare Ugly sticks.
