Q:
I know traditional muskie fishing doesn't have much finesse to it, but it's up and coming. I recently moved and the lake that is near my house has a decent amount of fishing pressure, a lot of grass, and is small(94 acres-ish). It's trolling motor only, the one end is about 20-30 feet deep, but most is only 6-10, it has a lot of bass, bluegill, and other panfish. It was rumored to have had the PA state record muskie floating in it. I was thinking of setting up a "finesse" spinning rod set-up, what size rod do ya'll think would be good?

RD, I don't think I've ever heard the words "muskie" and "finesse" used in the same paragraph before! I'm from WI, and I know that the guys up there use serious lumber for fishing for muskies. Just look at the plugs you use for trolling! Some of those things are a foot long! I don't think "finesse" is going to enter into it. lol... I'd be thinking more along the lines of a catfish rig

Rd, i live in Pa in Bradford county. There are some good lakes in Tioga County I know of that have musky in the 40 inch range. Most people I know "finesse" wise use a seven foot rod. You need a stiff rod incase you hit a big one but more than likely that will be every thousand casts. I use 8-15 lb tess with braided or steel leaders. Like Bubba said though, if you are a serious musky angler you are talking 30 lb line, lures that cost 20 bucks a piece, and a heavy rod
