I hadn't noticed much difference myself but I haven't boated a whole lot of muskies. Two and they were both in the 26" range. Maybe the bigger ones are tougher.
The bigger Northern I've caught fought very hard.
They are pretty equivalent if they are the same weight. Muskie get much bigger though so they can haul you out of the boat. I have caught notherns in the 30 pound range that I could have sworn were big muskies. I have also had some great fights from northerns in that range while they are spawning. They tail walk and splash on the surface... you couldn't want much more in the fighting arena. I've had days where I was splashed wet as a rag all day with big northerns fighting on the surface.

I'm not sure they do... I've got both and seems to me, pound for pound, a pike gives more of a tussle.
i've never heard that theory.
