Q:
I will be fishing Pipestone lake which is just east of Lake of the Woods in Ontario in mid-September. It is an expansive, clear-water lake system that reportedly supports good populations of: walleye, smallmouth, pike, musky, and lake trout. Is there anybody out there who has fished the region this time of year that could offer some advice on specific tackle and tactics I should employ while I'm up there?

Hi, YooperRyan...
I've fished Rainy Lake in Sept. (Ontario side), not too far from where you seem to be going. Big smallies and walleyes were on main-lake points and near mid-lake humps, not deep, and coming really well to twitched, hard-bodied jerkbaits (Rapala, Lucky Craft). Cold up there, too, but probably not too different than Yooper-land.
Jigs, and any hardbait fished deep should work.
