Q:
Looking to head up to the Salmon River in NY this coming fall. I need some more info on top of what I already know. Is it fly only? If not what lures are best to use? What lb test? Any other tips are appreciated. Thanks

i only fly fish and i use large streamers like ghosts and popcicles as well as leeches. other types of fishing are allowed as far as i know. see you there.
James. I dont fly fish so im gonna have to use a spinning reel. Im goingto do some more research. I got in touch with a lodge that offers guided fishing but i dont feel like paying for a guide. The nice part about the lodge was they own the riverfront property which is only for their customers.
sorry, i only fly fish on the salmon. you can use spinning gear there. try pixies and anything that resembles egg patterns if you are there in the fall. or just use salmon eggs.
As we enter fall, begin to focus on fishing in shallow water - fall feeding times. I'd go with crankbait, jerkbait, or spinnerbait. Make sure that the color of the bait matches the surrounding foliage in the area, or just go with a natural looking shad color.
Also be aware that if you fish in mid to late fall, you may have to deal with a mess of fallen leaves on the water and it can be hard to use good lures.
