Read a rather disturbing article regarding walleyes in Lake Erie. Since the massive hatches in the 80's (peak time ever recorded) the lake has lost adn estimated 125 million fish. Over the last 3 years the DNR estimates losing 30 million. While the walleye population is cyclical, the hatches the last few years have been very disappointing with the exception of 2003. DNR has put slot and creel limits but many, primarily the charter captains, are concerned its too little too late. Its estimated that Lake Erie fishing generates $500 million+/- annually with 1/2 of that directly related to walleyes.

If you've never fished Lake Erie you're really missing out. Hopefully its not too late to still experience one of the great fisheries in the world.

I only got one so far but I'm happy with it seeing how it was 26 inch 5 pound fish.

I must be cursed. The guys around me are catching walleye on the same bait and rig as me, but all I catch are perch.
