Q:
I have to go to Door County, WI at the end of the week for a few days. We are staying at a place right on Lake Michigan (The Clearing) and I might be able to sneak away for some fishing. I will be fishing from shore and was wondering if any of you with experience fishing in that area had any suggestions about lures etc. or even a guess as to what might be in shallow this time of year? Thanks in advance. -chuckles

i go to school right on the other side of the lake, on the MI side at nighttime you can fish the shore for coho salmon, steelhead, and pike. they come in at night and cruise the shore for baitfish. i throw glow in the dark spoons like little cleos when doing this kind of fishing.

i go to school at University of green bay you'll be going right by the campus if you take 42. The walleyes are running in the tributaries to the lake. Otherwise like scratch said the browns are biting at night i haven't fished much up that far but I think the fish creek area gets a pretty good smelt run that usually produces some great brown fishing. I would stick to spoons and throw the whole box at them there not really consistent on any color out of the boat right now. I think the smelt come in at night and may hang off shore if the water in the tribs is to cold or turbid so the browns should follow them.

Spoons cast far. So do rattletraps. Both catch everything. I would also try some top water if you're into some good shallows.

also the fishing will be better when the current is strong coming into shore and the water is rough, because thats what churns the bottom and brings the baitfish in, with the baitfish come the big fish. good luck, hope its better than mine last friday night.
