theres such thing as to be too drunk and then you fall in the water and drown due to your drunkness, so yes there is a such thing as to drunk to fish IMO
and unless you walked you gotta drive home possibly wrecking and killing somebodys mother, father, grandma etc... and your in jail, and if your on a boat, need i say more? sorry if i seem harsh, had an older friend die cuz that, and he wasnt drinking
A couple beers while you are fishing..sure, why not. But not getting drunk. First off, you probably aren't going to catch much if you are hammered, then also the reasons Ethan listed.
Ha,
If I got drunk where I go fishing, I'd probably die falling off a cliff or something. That grappling hook was a good investment to get where the fish are untouched.
Fishing usually involves either running water or a lake/ocean. Anybody fishing running water when they are tipped over is nuts. When I was a park ranger in Alaska I sent a party headed for fishing above the falls back to the lodge because they were all gassed up and one of them could barely walk. The guide wasn't terribly upset with me about it. As a public employee if I see something like that, DON'T do anything to stop it, and some tragedy occurs (and in that water I really can't see how some tragedy was not going to occur), then I can expect to find myself on the wrong end of a lawsuit, not to mention having difficulty looking at myself in the mirror long enough to shave for the next thirty years. Anyway, the guide said his boss told him to take them out anyway. I had a chat with that fella at the end of the day. Results were satisfactory and I did not have to involve my boss. If I had, I'm sure the outfit would have lost their use permit.
Fishing open water almost always involves a boat. Drunkeness has NO place on a boat whether it involves the operator or not. Combining an unsteady boat with an unsteady occupant is a disaster waiting to happen! Up here it is illegal to have an open container in any boat and there are strict regulations about how closed containers can be stored. Nevertheless, I swear we lose scores of fisherman every year to drinking related accidents. Also, if you fall in this water most times of the year you're lucky to survive any amount of time sober. But drunks have about halved their survival time in hypothermic conditions. Alcohol opens up the capillaries and severely limits the body's ability force blood from extremities into the core where it can be kept warmer longer.
Sorry, I was wrong. Open containers are legal on some larger boats with living quarters if the boats are at anchor or docked. Open containers on pleasure craft of any size or type that are underway is illegal.
i mean ive got some spots where i could walk to across the street from my house hammered drunk and probably do ok where if i fall in its only a few inches deep off the bank...probably wouldnt attempt fishing in a boat on big water drunk, good way to drown.
ill go with its a location deal, some places you can be drunk and fish and others you will die.
William Holden was drunk getting into bed; tripped and hit his head on a night table and died. Too drunk to get into bed. Puts it all into perspective. Yes-No
According to the autopsy, Holden merely bled to death from a deep cut and probably remained conscious for at least a half hour after the accident. They figure he was too drunk to understand what was happening to him. Wow.
Thanks been playing outside as to the advice of my dear departed Mommy. O-H his autopsy showed alcohol intoxication. Since I wasn't there I can only go with the original news release and medical records. The ultimate cause was sanguination/ since EMS could not stop the blood flow. If you want to say clumsy instead of drunk. Well I believe there were more deaths from the latter than the former. But as my uncle Joe used to say "never drink so much that you have to rely on someone else to tell the story". Or if your a girl "don't drink so much that I become handsome". As a personal note I had a friend who was too drunk to swim to his boat. The official cause was drowning. You feel me. As a closing note I love beer and spirits but I respect both!
LoL at all the responses, thanks guys.
I actually don't drink and fish anymore since getting a DUI back in 2007. Unless someone else is driving.
Plus, it's locational. When I fly fish in Colorado creeks I wait till the end of the day.
Catfishing at night in the sweltering heat here at home in Oklahoma, well, that require a few cold ones.
gumby true so true rather a bitter beer than a sweet soda to quench thirst. An old German field hands lunch Radishes and salt, rye bread and butter plus a bottle of beer. Better than Gatorade and not as heavy as a sandwich. Give it a try if you work hard.
I live on the banks of a river and I have often drank beer and fished, as long as I can get the bait on the hook then I am not too drunk to fish, and I have never been that drunk before as baiting a hook is very simple.
RES, Lmao. In another life was drunk as hammered hell in a golf cart. Going down a hill and all the sudden Im bouncin along side the cart! Was definately toq drunk to fish! LMFAO. I live on the water and may have a few cold ones while fishin in the yard. The beer usually gets hot because Im concentrating on fishin. If there is a boat or motor vehicle involved no beers.
I gave up drinking in the outdoors many years ago. Too risky and the time in the wild is too precious to waste getting drunk. Life is too much fun and death is always there waiting for the chance to get ya', don't make it any easier. Safe travels to you all.

If you're noticeably drunk, I probably wouldn't want to fish with you.
A couple beers while you are fishing..sure, why not. But not getting drunk. First off, you probably aren't going to catch much if you are hammered, then also the reasons Ethan listed.
Yes, there is. I had to bring a couple of parties back to the dock when I was running charters in the Gulf.
fishing is no fun when you are blasted, period.
When the fishing is good you don't have time to drink anything, otherwise LMAO at the question.

If booze and driving and booze and guns don't mix, then why in the hell would booze and fishing mix?
Every other time I go out ATVing, I come across some idiot also riding wanting to hand me a beer.
When the above happens, why is it I get the urge to _____________! Go figure!!
