Q:
Does anybody use bait piles under their ice huts? I am fishing in Lake Superior for whitefish and have been using rice. However I am uncertain how much and when to use it or if some other bait is more effective. I fish in 30 to 40 feet of water and am wondering if there is an efficient way to get the bait to the bottom without scattering all over the lake?

I read about a guide that puts rice in brown paper bag, ties a cord/small rope around the bag to close it. He throws it in and waits a few minutes then pulls the cord and rips the bag open. The swelling rice is suppossed to attract baitfish as it slowly rises to the surface in a column.
Kkeltic is right , but put a rock in the bottom of the bag and for your depth use 10lb.+ fishing line instead of rope.
Put it in a out water bottle with holes in it an tie a rope to it and lower it to where you will be fishing at.
Agreed with Kkeltic answer above and A + 1 for you sir!!!
