Hot dogs, the cheaper the better, like the chicken/pork/beef/whatever parts is parts brands. $0.99 a pack of ten and you've got bait (and a snack if you wash your hands!).

Go out and dig some worms. I think marshmallows work, too.

Hot dogs have worked well for me. They can just be tricky to keep on the hook.

You can catch a catfish on pretty much anything you throw out there, but cut bait has always gotten results for me.

Chicken liver is my go to for catfish. I've also used dough balls with a piece of bread smashed around a piece of cheese.

country road has it right, worms from the yard are as cheap as you can go as they are free.

All posts are great, now if you want to get fancy take your bait and inject it with anise oil, bought in the store baking section.
Old rotted shad works as well.

beef liver or chicken liver works real well. Have also use hot dogs, marshmallows, and left over meat from dinner. and if you can get a few small sunfish about 3 inches long they work real well

Catfish Dough Balls-Flour, water, and garlic powder or garlic salt. The stinkier the better. Marshmallows, liver, bluegill, hot dogs, ivory soap, worms, just about anything. Like i said STINKIER IS BETTER!
