I fish extensively with plastic tail, however I like to tip the hook with a piece of worm. To me it makes all the difference in the world. If I had to choose between one or the other I would take live bait on most any occassion.
I prefer to fish with artifical lures. Cant remember the last time I used live bait, even though live bait is normally more productive, I enjoy the challenge that artifical lures presents.
live bait for walleye, catfish, white bass, crappies, sunnies artificial for smallmouth and muskie, sometimes pike. I will occasionally use artificial for panfish.
I love to fish side by side with live bait users, I usually catch 2 to 1 using artificial. With artificials I can cover more area, faster and with more action than with live bait. It's so much more rewarding for me to entice a fish into biting a artificial.
Sounds like im the odd ball on this one. I use a curley tailed jig with a minnow. Almost always go home with my limit of crappie with that. if im stream fishing though its got to be helgramites. (sp?)
I like to use what the fish are biting! Sometimes, when fishing with bait, I have found that fish get stimulated, and will hit artificials. Sometimes, artificials are all they will hit, and sometimes bait. All goes back to what the fish want at any given time.
It depends on what I am fishng for. I use mostlh artificial baits because I think they are more challenging. I release most fish I catch so I don't have to worry about getting more. I do use live bait on fish I really want to catch like striped bass and grouper/snapper when that is the only thing they will hit.
i can't aim a rod nearly as well as i can a rifle and i'm no pro at that and you can't kill an artificial bait by bouncing it off the rocks or stumps. i am a huge fan of rapala broke back shad in all sizes.

I use mostly plastic worms, Texas rigged, carolina rigs, twister tails and a few crankbait types but IMO you cant beat live bait... thats a sure thing in almost any condition or place

It depends on what I'm fishing for, but for most fish, I'll reach for a can of worms before anything else.

I live in Florida, so most all of the fishing I do is salt water, so for the most part I use live bait.
