You can buy or make dough bait that supposedly works well, but I've never tried it personally. Cheese cubes and corn will give results as well.

If you're going for grass carp (as opposed to common carp and their close cousins), they will sometimes take small topwater lures with feathery tails. I have done pretty well with them using green dry flies on a fly rod (which is a TON of fun), by casting into clumps of grass that they are eating. They are pretty skittish, so a soft presentation is key.

We used to take old, moldy bread and wad it up in a ball on the hook. Worked well.

bread balls soaked in raspberry jello liquid, then lightly rolled in cornmeal has worked well on common carp for me. we used to pull +30lbers outta the red river in manitoba pretty often.

that should read dipped not soaked in raspberry jello liquid.Soaking makes the bread balls too soggy to cast well.you just want to cover the baits surface.

The best thing to use for carp is a nice bread ball or some Captain Crunch cereal. I have heard so many people swear by sweet corn but, I have never seen them catch as many as I have.

i use just reguler dough, but make sure you smash a cotton ball into it or else it will just fall off your hook

something nasty, something that smells, they are slow fat fish, and they are always at the bottom searching for food, they have an amazing nose.

In creeks we use can corn drain the juice & pour molassas over it. Put it in the frig over night. When you see Carp throw some in creek a little up stream, let it go to them. Put on a small splitshot & small egghook with corn on it. Let them pick it up & hang on. I use a 10' 8wgt. flyrod, it's tons of fun.
