Berkley Gulp catfish bait is nice because its relatively clean and stays on the hook fairly well. If you want to go cheaper, use cut bait, crawlers or plastic dip worms and dip bait.

I use cut bait and crawlers. If I am jugging for turtles and have some spare chicken livers they also work well.

Favorite lure would be a large shad imitation lure rigged on a jig head, scented with shad oil.

If I using a regular catfish bait it would be shad, shrimp, or beef heart.
