The tides are controlled by the moon in tide-water areas such a rivers, creeks and streams. Even ponds are affected by the gravity forces of the moon, so the phases of the moon do matter.

Fishing tends to be very dependent on lunar cycles. From what I can tell fishing on a full moon for panfish is pretty good. But on the other hand I can tell you a full moon fishing for flounder is the worst. Different fish like different cycles. You can look up fishing prime times and they are all based in some way on the lunar phase.
