when ever they get hungry, the best bite comes with the spring warm up. early morn and late afternoon always work for me also.
The most active period is spring, as to the specific month depends on how far north you live, in TX March-May is the best time.
I always catch them in the spring. I didn't catch any this summer over at the neighbors, they were all caught in the spring.
