Snapper blues are great for catching adult blues. Snappers are easy to catch. You don't have to keep them alive either, I've used them as cut bait. To catch them frozen silversides work great. So do small castmasters or daredevils. It's getting about time here in CT for the snappers to start running. They are little demons just like their parents :)

Growing up on the jersey shore I used to make a point to bring light tackle and fish snappers from the dock before going out on party boats for blues. Don't have to be live. Great bluefish bait. Small Kastmaster lures are very effective. Phoebe lures work well also. I prefer plain silver.

They make awesome bait. I cut 'em into nice big chunks and put 'em on a circle hook.
