Just make sure you do your homework. By that I mean investigate the guide and call references if possible. If you are staying in an all-inclusive resort, the guides they recommend are generally safe. Also, investigate what "is biting" for the time of year. The guides will typically ask you what you want to catch. Its best to tell them the species that has the best bite. Plenty of internet resources to determine the best bite for a fish by month. If you land a nice and they ask you if you want a mount; DO NOT agree to it. It is a scam and you will pay 3 to 4 times what you should. Its best to get the measurements of the fish and then have a replica made by Kings if you need the mount. Typically, you tip the mate 10% of the cost of the trip. Good luck.

My Brother, his son and son-in-law went to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to fish for Stripped Marlin. Check out this link with women catching stripped marlin on video.
