Most Ladyfish in my neck of the woods have been caught with cast nets off the jetties while the tide is going out. They are probably the best bait that you can use for King Mackeral but they are a little tough to find and catch. Most local bait shops sell them and that may be the easiest as well as the cheapest way to go.
i caught tons of ladyfish in sarasota fl. using glass minnow imitations like jig heads with haulographic skirts like on big tuna baits. very small jigs. also on clear or speckaled curly tail jigs. Caught them on the same stuff i was using for seatrout. also on shrimp tipped jigs.
