Q:
I need some basic saltwater fishing tips: gear, bait, time of day etc. Won't be fishing from a boat just the pier at Virginia Beach in July.

I don't know anything about that area or the fish there. I would suggest you do a search---something like "Virginia beach fishing pier"----and I bet you'll find something. Even search the Virginia Beach C of C for guidance on where to ask questions. I love fishing off the pier here at Gulf Shores, AL, and hope you have good luck your trip.

I don't know anything about fishing in Virginia, but if you were down here I'd say put a live shrimp under a cork, an fish when the tide is dropping the fastest. If you use artificial, my favorite is the 'electric chicken' plastic cochaoe on a 1/4 oz jig head. Also almost every fish in the water will hit a silver or gold spoon. I wish I could help more, just I know nothing about Virginia. Come to Louisiana and ill put you on em.
