Rods I've seen wth roller guides are used to fight and reel in large offshore fish. I would not get one for casting just for braided line. A good quality rod now days will have ceramic or titanium guides and will cast better than roller guides.

I've used rods with roller guides to bottom fish for snapper and grouper, but like Cgull said, not for any sort of casting. Ceramic guides are a lot less trouble.
