Q:
I don't think my last question got through, but here are the basics- I just moved to Boston for grad school and I am looking to get into some saltwater shore fishing. I don't have any experience out here, as i've mainly fished out west for salmon, trout, and sturgeon. Any advice on good places to go (that are close by for bus or rail access) and what to use would be great. Thanks a lot!

sounds like you will be fishing from shore so i suggest a good tall surf rod for those long casts...i'd get it and your reel at a local bait shop, and i'd be asking questions, such as what type of cover do fish tend to like in this area(rock lines, points, sand bars, ect), or you can look for that cover and go figure it out with taking notes and making a log, however since you are there for school, i doubt you'll be out enough/live there long enough for a good all weather/conditions/time of year log

I went through that once and discovered that salt water fishing in the Boston area is a whole new ball game. Lots of things to read up on and discover from local tackle shops and too much to relate here. One thing to point out though... "sea worms" are pretty unique baits to that area and the stripers love them drifted in the outgoing tide. I had good luck virtually anywhere a river feeds into the ocean, especially the south side of Cape Code. North of the city is good for that too. A wide variety of saltwater fish like squid and clams too. The best advice is to get out there and see how others are succeeding, ask questions and enjoy learning. Best of luck!
