Went ice fishing at a small lake in the mountains. Saw a pretty good size brown trout on my underwater camera. Any ice fishing tips on catching big trout in a small mountain lake?

Be sure to check your state regulations on live bait. In Colorado it is illegal to use live fish for bait in waters above 7,000 feet elevation (to prevent spread of disease). Killed minnows are OK, as are strips of sucker meat. I’ve caught plenty of trout on dead minnows jigged on a Swedish Pimple or other jigging lures. Scented plastic minnows such as Yum or Gulp work well too.

Browns are meat eaters. Fish live minnows 5' to 10' below the ice.
