I do and all three methods. It's fun to find out what's working, and I love going down small creeks and streams with a small ultra-light and a panther martin or worm and see what's living in it. Sometimes you find a nice beaver pond and slay some good brookies trapped in it.
I love to fish for trout as long as I dont have to use bait. My top two lures are a silver and black Rapala and a Panther Martin with a silver spinner they have always treated me well. As far as flies go Im just getting in to fly fishing and dont know much about it but I know F and S did an article on the top flies not too long ago you should check it out
a lake clear wobbler with a #6 hook trailing about a foot behind with half a crawler on it. is popular around this neck of the woods . i like a small crappie sized tube jig for them as well .
I am a huge trout fishing and the best way to get started is to just drift worms down a local creek or river. try and find deep pools or breaks in rocks. The more you do it the better you will get at where those yummy trout hangout.
matouse3 i agree with you , although the quality of the new panther martins now have gone down.if you read this again i like the (gold blade/ blackbody/yellow dots pattern.
I love all methods of trout fishing. Unfortunately where i live it is only stocked ponds and lakes which isn't trout fishing to me. I only trout fish out of state. This does not happen frequently enough as of late!
To all trout lovers. I fish vegreville resovoir with jumbo dew worms, mashmellowsand cheese. These three seem to be the favorites in stocked ponds ,resovoirs and manmade lakes in my experience.M y uncle used to say in order to catch a fish u have to think like one.
If your going for live bait, I have had success using a simple nightcrawler that I will float through rivers and streams, like mathewsman said. However, I always keep my worm doing something. You don't want him to sit there with predatory fish.
As for lures, panther martins and silver foxes are great.
Whatever you use, stay sneaky. It will improve your success however you fish.

Keep is simple. Panther martins with an ultralight spinning rig works the best for small creeks and streams.
I do, and I am a fly purist at heart!
Don't get to trout fish much, but i love fly fishing for them when I get the chance.
