I am going to be going brown and rainbow trout fishing this summer and already have my tackle ready. But my question is what kind of line do i need on my ultra light rod. Weight, color etc.
For trout I would go with 4-6 lb mono, but I recently put 15lb braid on my favorite ultralight reel on 6 ft graphite rod and I am having fun whitebass fishing.
I have always liked ultralight tackle: a five-foot rod with 2-4 lb. test monofilament line. It is a challenge to take a fish that is heavier than the line.
There is no joy in horsing a three-pound fish out of the water with a ten lb. line.
Ultra-light trout fishing is a blast! Caught a couple of fat brown trout about 6 hours ago.
I fish with 2 or 4 lb (usually 4) line, but I really like fluorocarbon line. It's a bit more expensive, but really disappears in the water. Also, fluorocarbon has a smaller diameter than traditional monofilament, so technically you can have stronger line with about the same diameter.
