The Brule is regarded as one of the best trout rivers in wisconsin Ulysses S. Grant, Grover Cleveland, Herbert Hoover, Calvin Coolidge and Dwight D. Eisenhower have all fished the brule. I am trying to plan a trip up there at some point, but work has other ideas. I've read that Hwy 2 is the dividing point on the river, downstream from 2 has good salmon and steelhead runs as well as large lakerun browns. The middle stretch around hwy 2 has wild browns and rainbows and the upper reaches hold wild brook trout. There are numerous hatches on the brule now I would guess tricos and terrestrials would be best, but I would look at a hatch chart for this area its usually a few weeks behind the rest of the state. I doubt you could go wrong fishing any stretch, good luck.
Check out the blog at WiFly.word press.com - I've posted the details on a few outings there the past few years. Will be adding 2011 updates over Winter.
