I have a Charter Arms Bulldog Pug in .44 Special that weighs 22 oz. You don't even know it's there. Two chambers carry a shot load, the other two a 200 grain HP. E~WV
Does it have to be a revolver?
Any kind of Ruger auto loader in .22LR makes a real nice hiking gun. Relatively light, dependable and you can carry a butt load of ammo!
Even a Ruger Single Six with a shorter bbl.
The .41 Rem Mag is a much maligned cartridge.
I have a Mod 58 w/ 8 3/8 bbl. It's a deer/hog killin' dude. Don't think I'd want to take it on much of a march!! LOL!!
Any variation of a Smith M-29 will do nicely especially those with shorter barrels. Although the .41 is a fine round, at least locally, ammo and brass is almost impossible to find much like the same dilemma with a 16 gauge. The .44 mag can always be downloaded a bit or simply shoot .44 Specials. Some .44's revolvers are a little lighter than equivalent .41's.
Of necessity because I drop a couple of notches on the food chain when I head to the mountains, I carry a Ruger Vaquero in .44 mag. However, I have recently taken interest in a Ruger SP-101 3" in .327 Fed. Mag. as the ultimate kit gun for other than bear country. The Federal .327 mag. is sufficient for two legged predators, the H&R .32 mag. handles mid size four legged predators, while .32 S&W or .32 S&W Long will put meat in the pot.
I really like my Taurus Tracker in .41 rem mag. 2.5" ported barrel. 24oz empty, med frame 5 shot for portability. i'm shooting those winchester heavy loads
240 gr. HP. if the noise dont scare um to death the bullet will. its a kicker but i dont care. shock and awe has its own value. its a down and dirty take care of bizness NOW tool with ease of carry.

Make that the other three that carry HPs. It's still too early.

A Smith & Wesson .38 Special is pretty hard to beat for all-around use, unless you're in really big bear country.
S&W 629 .44 Mag.
.41 mag. lots of power and less recoil.

The super single six 22lr/22mag or the judge .410/.45. I prefer the super single six because it is lighter than the judge.
good call bubba. the 58 is on my list of my next 2 to buy.

I've been looking at a S&W 329. Expect a bit of recoil in that light gun, though.
Rule number 18 never go to a gunfight with a pistol that starts with anything below a 4.
Since your not going to go to a gunfight I'd reccomend an Smith in 38 air weight. That is if all day carrying, therefor weight is a concern.
If weight is no issues then go with first statement.
.327 is the other gun i plan on buying.
The late Skeeter Skelton was partial to the Colt single action in.44 Special for that purpose.
The 41Mag is my pet camp gun, with 175gr sthp win load
lite recoil, hits like a 44Mag. C~FL

I like my ruger redhawk. That thing will go through anything that's built like a tank.
I find the ruger 41 mag in 6 inch is just the ticket!
Use a 44. Mag.
