Q:
Hope someone can please assist! About 13 years ago I purchased a Field & Stream tent to take the family camping. My son was a cubscout at the time, and my husband hates to camp so I was the only Mom out there with her little kids putting up this big 3 room tent! ( I think it is considered a 7 or 8 person tent) I have fond memories of those experiences. We haven't put this tent together in about 8 years and I can't find the directions. I have googled and tried to locate online but can't. The tent is up but I can't figure out what to do with two of the flexible rods! We have used 4 (the two largest and the two shortest) but we have two that that have 7 sections in each, and I don't have a clue what to do with them. I am venturing out this Friday and Saturday to go camping- me with 4 teenagers! I don't want the tent to fly away or collapse and hope someone can advise.

Does the tent come with a seperate rain fly?
Yes. Were we supposed to use the rods for that? I just put threw that over the top of tent and then attached the clips at bottom.lol Sorry if I don't have the lingo down. I really loved camping when I was growing up and would love to start doing it again-- without an RV!
oops-- I meant I just threw it over the top...
I think that Jerry has you on the right track. Some fly's protrude out above the tents accesses when using the rods, so the fly is not in the way when entering/exiting the tent. Also, don't forget to stake the tent to the ground at all of its anchor points, and more importantly have fun.
Without seeing the tent, is there a "vestibule" on the rain fly? Many larger tents have a porch type area that is outside the tent but covered by the rain fly. Could the extra poles fit in there?
I would say they belong to the rain fly.
Most tents use a few poles to lift to lift the fly up to allow air flow. What model F and S tent is it?
I think the guys nailed the answers for you but I just wanted to salute your endeavors in taking your kids camping. As a mom of three I am so glad to see women taking their parenting outdoors. Don't forget the diaper wipes and M&Ms!
I can't help with the tent question, but I echo squirrelgirl in giving you kudos for taking your kids camping and introducing them to our natural world.
THANK YOU!!! We figured it out this morning thanks to your help. It was definitely for the rain fly! Yay! It looks great! Now if I can only put it together in less than a couple hours on Friday when we get there! ;o) We will be there til after breakfast on Sunday. I think I am more excited than the kids- turns out it is going to be me and 5 kids- as two friends coming along. I am having fun planning the food, oh the decisions! The weather is supposed to be beautiful this weekend in FL so glad about that! Thanks again everyone. So glad I thought to come here and ask! :)
