Q:
Does anyone know what type of ink/paint is used on fishing rods? This will be covered in epoxy so can't smear. I just finished a fly rod and would like to hand write the rod length and weight in silver.

I've thought about making my own rods before and found this site. this fella says, "Lots of paints work well. I always suggest hobby paint or various colors of correction fluid. Folks have used white shoe polish, acrylic paint, powdered water color paints, tempra, and a whole host of others". There are some other really great sites that explain different thread wrapping techniques, I like the double diamond wrap.Post some pics after ya finish, would be interesting to see your finished fly rod. http://globalflyfisher.com/rodbuilding/writing-on-rods/
Thanks, Cgull. Good info. I'll try a Gelly Roll pen and will consider a custom label as a backup. This is my fist shot at rod building so didn't get fancy. This was the least expensive way to get a Hexagraph. Their rod builder did most fitting work so I just had to put it together and turn the final section of cork. This is a stealth trout rod - basic graphite color with black wraps. Came out okay. Nothing fancy so not much to look at so won't post pix. If I really like the rod I might order one of their finished blanks and get fancy on that.
ue clear fingernail polish on the rod it will make it look new and make it last longer
