Q:
Need some advice. I have been looking into quality rain jackets for a little while now. I fish quite a bit, and due to my current state, I often spend additional time out in the rain. I currently have a cheap rain jacket, but have been looking to buy a nicer one. I am considering a mid price level jacket. (Unfortunatley I do not have the funds nor work outside enough to warrant buying a Simms G4/G3 or the equivalent). I am looking for something that is a quality leakproof jacket and reliable. Any advice?

I have a Northface rain jacket for school up in Boone NC.
I think mine was around $100. Its breathable and has nice pockets. Boone's at the top of a mountain and everyone has Northface coats, jackets, sweaters, etc.

Driducks are cheap and are built very well. Frogtogg gear is more money, but also extremely afforable and put together great.

I've had good luck with my Frog Togs, but I can't say how well they'd hold up with as much use as you're talking about. I just use mine occasionally since my work doesn't keep me outside.

I've been looking at raingear as well for an upcoming elk hunt. I've read reviews on basspro and cabelas and it seams that basspro squaltex is getting favorable reviews.

I've used one by Stearns for years; leakproof, breathable, and relatively cheap.

I've been using a pants and jacket set from Cabela's for several years, and they are light and breathable. Don't get the sweaty, hot feeling that you usually get with rubber or PVC rain gear. The pieces fit in two gallon sized Ziploc bags and are always in my hunting box, gear bag or pickup. Don't remember how much the set cost, but it has lasted for years.

If you go on-line to Sierra Trading Post, you can link to waterproof clothing. I bought Carhartt top jacket and suspendered lowers. Not a drop gets in. Price...under a hundred for the Carhartt name and quality, for the two piece set.

I have a Cabelas whitetail extreme parka F&S sent me last year to test and I love the thing. It has goretex and a coating of teflon that makes it absolutely waterproof yet it breathes. It is also silent in the woods and kept me warm 21 ft up in a treestand when it was cold as a witches heart and windy to boot.

I agree with Count, carhartt makes quality stuff, that is designed to last. I have one, not a leak. It breaths very well. It has the sleave cuffs to not allow water down your sleeves. It was 99 dollars

I use a Marmot jacket and pants. Not plastic and very breathable. I am always dry when I use this. It was a gift that was bought at LL Bean for around $200
