Q:
As true friends, I need your guys opnions. I really, really need some advice on this problem. Well, Ive suspected for some time now that my girlfriend has been cheating. Its the usual signs, she wont let me see her phone, goes out with the girls a lot, is distantly thining about something else a lot when Im with her. I try to stay awake to look out for her when gets home late but I usually fall asleep. Anyways, last night about midnight I hid in the garage behind the boat waiting for her to get home. When the truck pulled up, she got out of some guys Ford, buttoned up her blouse, pulled her panties out of her purse and slipped them on and fixed her messed up hair. It was at that moment while crouched behind the boat I noticed something that I should have seen months ago.... a hairline crack in the outboard mounting bracket. Is that something I can weld or do I need to replace it all together? Thanks.

If you weld it the reason it cracked may still exist and it will crack again. I would have it looked at by a professional... and thanks for the laugh.

That is a crisis far beyond my ability to deal with. I think professional help is indicated---with your boat, too.

If it were me I would not fix it yet, take your cheating girl friend to a deep lake drop her off in the deep end with cement boots on. Then park your boat in the garage, and if the cops find her body you can claim it wasn't you because your boat is in need of some very serious structural repair! Another thought marry her first , then get a life insurance policy, that way you can use that money to fix your motor mount!

I've dealt with aerial bucket trucks for 30 years. We never repaired a crack in a fiber glass bucket you can give it a try but make sure your girl sits between you and the outboard motor.

All cracks need filling. JB Weld for one and super glue for the other.

I wouldn't risk failure at a critical moment. I would replace the bracket without doubt. Outboard mounts are nothing to take chances on. You could be left up a creek without a paddle. :-)

I think you've got your priorities in order; take care of that hairline crack because the boat will last longer than the relationship and will probably remain afloat longer.
By the way, that post did make me laugh.

Ok boof you sound like a good kid check my earlier post. First I would think a 14 ft hull was molded in ONE PIECE. If the crack was any place else I would say you had a shot. Like said fiber glass comes in large blankets and thats the strength. The next question you have to ask is how big is the motor and how much stress on the transum. Finally how good do you swimm. Can you swim to shore from the middle of your lake? Can you dive to get your motor back? As far as your girl goes thats easier to fix than working fiber glass, but if you stay with her you'll get a worse itch.
